HOUSING STABILITY PROGRAM

“Supporting housing stability initiatives by providing quality legal representation and services to low-income tenants and households facing eviction have access to quality legal representation.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has only worsened issues relating to housing insecurity.  Millions of families nationwide have been impacted by an inability to pay rent, mortgage payments, utilities, and other expenses relating to stable housing.  Coupled with a significant shift in unemployment and a difficult-to-enforce eviction moratorium, low-income households are in serious need of legal support to sustain their domestic situations.

Ebony Law was accepted as a marquee services provider to the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Housing Opportunity Fund’s Legal Assistance Program because of its diversity and commitment to social impact.  The program will underwrite $1MM in legal fees for families who qualify for mediation, limited or full representation on housing insecurity matters. Eligible recipients must have a total household income at or below 50% Area Median income (80% for homeowners).

EVERY VOICE LIFTED HBCU TOUR

“Engage to educate.  Educate to empower.”

Personal empowerment is an integral part of the Ebony Law origin story, because it was founded by Keenan Holmes, an attorney who did not feel comfortable in the conventional legal environment, but was committed to making it work. When it was all said and done though, he found himself in a position having to make a personal and professional decision to either stay with a “big law firm” and compromise his beliefs and word, or leave “big firm law” and stick with his client, holding on to his word.  He left.  And, yes, summed up, he left over a social justice case.

As a direct result, our firm prides itself on its history of questioning the status quo and supporting individuals who may also find themselves trying to fulfill professional obligations and personal purpose in a stodgy business or industry.

Ebony Law is taking that message of personal empowerment and social justice on the road to HBCUs.  The Tour is a platform and forum that both challenges systems, processes, and the status quo, and supports innovative, revolutionary social impact ideas and solutions.

Ebony Law is committed to empowering others as they trail blaze in their careers. Building the next generation of diverse leaders is a challenge we happily take on.
