If you’ve been paying attention, you know that Ebony Law does legal differently.
That’s on purpose.
The traditional way of providing legal help is outdated. It’s inaccessible, unaffordable, exclusive, and creates a power dynamic between lawyer and client that’s not conducive to best-case scenarios.
We want to change that. We believe it’s time to innovate law firms.
That means things like investing in a truly diverse team. It means being a guide and a partner to our clients. It means offering affordable and unique payment options.
That’s where crowdfunding has come in.
We’re calling on the collective to help those who can’t quite help themselves yet. Think Robin Hood. Except by choice (no stealing here).
We’re asking those who can, to give to those who can’t (yet).
This idea all started when we partnered with the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). Through our partnership we help individuals facing eviction or other housing-related conflict and the URA funds our services.
The URA collective provides for these clients in need.
Now we’re taking this same idea into our own hands.
If other organizations can fund these groups’ legal needs, why can’t we call on the collective to do the same too?
So we launched the Legal Access Initiative for Small Businesses and Nonprofits.
This initiative is our way of crowdfunding legal services for small businesses and nonprofits, generally marginalized groups.
With this initiative we are offering legal help to 100+ small businesses and nonprofits through sponsorships. We, the collective, are sponsoring them.
We’ve not only seen incredible results from them receiving this start up help, we’ve seen the full circle of a small business receiving free help and then paying it forward when they were able to, sponsoring a fellow small business owner later on when they were able.
THIS is the future of law. One that’s reciprocal. That’s based in community. That’s about service and support, access and inclusion.
We’re thrilled and humbled to have seen the positive response. And we’re proud to be able to offer quality legal help to those who really need it, in their time of need.
If you’re fired up about this idea as well, we’re always accepting contributors, sponsors, funding partners, and new clients – get in touch if this is you.
